ISSUES WITH BAGGAGE CAROUSELS
· Passengers are forced into tight, multi-line configurations near the carousel. · Retrieval requires bending, turning, and straining to view approaching baggage. · Similarity in baggage appearance (brand, size, color) complicates recognition. · Identification requires scanning of all baggage. · Bags often pass by quickly; passengers may miss their turn and endure long wait cycles. · Those standing further back may not see the carousel clearly, leading to repeated misses.
The Solution
Almost all of us have tracked a ride on our phone: You watch the driver’s location updated in real time as the car approaches your pickup spot. Now picture that same live tracking at the airport baggage claim carousel: Instead of monitoring a car, you are watching your suitcase on your phone navigate the carousel, moving closer until it is in front of you to pick up.
Additional Features The phone shows essential details such as flight number, carousel number, and baggage count. An in-app link allows swift lost baggage reporting once the carousel clears.
The outcome
· Enhanced passenger safety and experience. · Passengers do not need to scan all the baggage for detection of their own baggage. · Elimination of picking up mistaken baggage by the passengers. · Smoother and faster flow of baggage and passengers. · Increased utilization and capacity of baggage claim `area and carousels. · With over 4 billion passengers annually, the savings for passengers and airports will be substantial.
INTEGRATION
· Works with current carousel systems. · Seamlessly implemented without disrupting ongoing operations.
