Smart Baggage Claim
ISSUES WITH BAGGAGE CAROUSELS
· Passengers are forced into tight, multi-line configurations near the carousel. · Retrieval requires bending, turning, and straining to view approaching baggage. · Similarity in baggage appearance (brand, size, color) complicates recognition. · Identification requires scanning of all baggage. · Bags often pass by quickly; passengers may miss their turn and endure long wait cycles. · Those standing further back may not see the carousel clearly, leading to repeated misses.
The Solution
· A Heads Up Display (HUD) is used for unobstructed view by all passengers.
· The baggage barcode or RF is read at a location past the carousel entrance.
· The passenger seat number associated with the baggage is displayed above the baggage.
· The seat number on the display is moved in sync with the carousel.
· The passenger easily recognizes the seat number and picks up the baggage.

The outcome
· Enhanced passenger safety and experience. · Fast and easy baggage recognition by the passengers. · Elimination of picking up mistaken baggage by the passengers. · Smoother and faster flow of baggage and passengers. · Increased utilization and capacity of baggage claim area and carousels. · With over 4 billion passengers annually, the savings for passengers and airports will be substantial.
Integration · Works with current carousel systems. · Seamlessly implemented without disrupting ongoing operations.
Simplified approaches to HUD HUD offers two other options that simply provide an elevated view of the conveyor belt to all passengers. These options are easy to install and involve no significant system integration challenges: 1. Display Screens and Cameras: Display screens, paired with cameras, replicate the conveyor belt's view. 2. Tilted Mirrors: Tilted mirrors reflect an image of the conveyor belt.
